Sara and I watched Dad make taffy one day. He just 'dumped' but we tried to figure out the amounts by just observing him. Hope it works for you who want to try it. ''
Grandpa Sinks' Taffy
3 cups Brown Sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white Karo Syrup
2 Tbsp. butter
Boil first five ingredients until it turns brittle when a small amount is dropped into cold water.
Add 1 tsp vanilla -- stir.
Pour onto buttered pan or platter. When cool, pull until white. GOOD LUCK !!!

Len's Burial Wed. at 11 a.m.
Remember us in prayer as we take Len to his final resting place under the towering pine trees at Immanuel Church Cemetry near our dear Selah, his father, mother and Moster Tillie.
Len and the young boys at the church during Bible School would climb up in the trees and their weight would bend the trees down to earth giving them a ride.
Joe and Vicki Snyder from Indiana are here now, and will be with us tomorrow. Joe is son to Dale and Alvada Snyder, who Dale is brother to Bernice Dafforn, and Ralph Snyder.
Thank you again for all the continuing cards, and prayers. We continue to enjoy all of the flowers and plants that you gave.
Love to all,
Norma Jean and Family

Landen Philip Bailey
Chris Skinner commented in her last post about an "article about Landen". For those who don't live in the Zanesville area, I'll fill you in. Ked Bailey's youngest son, Clete, lost his six year old son this week in a horrible accident. He was riding a four-wheeler with his seven year old cousin and when they turned to go around the corner of the barn, they lost control. Kylee was thrown off (suffered a few cuts and bruises) and although Landen was also thrown, the four-wheeler rolled onto him. Clete and Kendra (Kylee's mom) were outside watching them; Kendra had just looked away to pick up another child, but Clete saw the whole thing. An ambulance was called, arrived, and called for the helicopter to come. When they got him to the hospital, the doctors realized there was nothing they could do. That was Tuesday night. It's been a very emotionally draining week. The family has had a VERY hard time. We've been praying deligently, and God has been good. The funeral service was today, and Clete spoke. Anyone who knows Clete knows that that isn't in his character. He shared memories, and it was very touching. Please remember the whole Bailey family in your prayers as they face the days ahead. Grandma Clara seems to be having a very difficult time.
Takk for Alt...(Thanks for All)
I just wanted to say a special thank you to everyone who visited, prayed or thought of us during the time of loss of my daddy, Len. you were all so helpful to us, here up in the North, especially mom. He was a treasure on this earth and well-loved not only by we, his family, but by many, many people in our community. "It feels like a legend has died", several folks explained how they felt about his leaving.
I'm gonna try my hardest to come up with stuff to add every once in a while. -Just figured out how to do photos now, too. Thanks Stephanie, for taking the time to start us up. I miss you all, and look forward to meeting all the new babies next time we come to visit.

Thank you
I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of losing Dad. I cannot tell you how much it meant to us to have the large group of fun-loving individuals join us that week from indiana. I think i speak for all of us when i say that it was balm to our hurting hearts. Mom has told me several times how very much it meant to her that you all came and how much it helped her. What a blessing it is to have such a wonderful family that bands together like that. We love you all very much and wish i could find the right words to thank each one of you. You all played a part in making our first difficult week more bearable. God bless you all. Love and miss you. Can't wait to see you all again. Hopefully we'll get some summer weather again. it snowed on fishing opener! mostly rain, though. I wasn't surprised! -Sara
HNHS Track Sectionals

Marissa competed at IWU for the girls track sectionals in the hurdles and did very well, but will not go on to Regionals. In the program we saw that Joyce Walmsley (Kitchen) still holds a sectional record for the 200 meter dash from 1984. There is also a relay team with Bradburn and others from Norwell for 1985. That was really neat to see that the records are still unbroken. This picture is from the newspaper so it is grainy....
Also the Huntington newspaper had a very nice article about Landon today where they quoted Tom Datema and others talking about Landon and his family.

SECURITY GUARD NEEDED !!!
We desperately needed a S. Guard yesterday when a camper put his boat into # l cabin spot that is reserved for Cabin # l. The Delta pilots arr. and they were o.k. with the situation.
The swans left the bay yesterday. To much activity on the lake for them. At last counted, Steve saw l8 there. I was at # 4 cabin and saw them flying at close range, flying just along the shoreline. They were so awesome to see in flight, so majestic !! and trumpeting as they left. They will probably nest over in the Refuge, just a short distance away.
The pilots wished they were here when the ice left the lake on Tues. night. It would have been a new experience for the guys from Atlanta, Ga.
We will hold the Security Guard job open for a little while longer.
Norma Jean Another crisis arose. # 4 came and said they have no water. It was 27 deg this a.m.

Just came back from the Point Cabin, people coming there tomorrow. We will have to clean better after opening. Didnt get any of the logs scrubbed. Water turned on and no leaks !! I counted l6 trumpeter swans in the Bay. Wow !!
The ice left the lake yesterday and last night. Didnt see any ice this morning. Maybe there was some still in the north.
I will write later when I have more strength and time. Have to get ready for these fisherman that are coming tomorrow and Fri.
Thanks to all for all of the comfort, cards and love to us.
