Kev's surgery is done!!!

What a day. I won't give all the details because some of you know what this surgery involves and the rest of you don't want to know. Surgery was at 3:00, done by 5:30 and in his room by 7:00. I left him at 9:00, and they were getting him started on the motion machine. I'm sad to think of the next hours for him - lots of pain. They assured us in a class last week that after the first 24 hours he'll turn a corner and be on the road to recovery. I hope they told us the truth!!! The kids came up to see Kev before the surgery and Claire brought Poppy a home-made card that told him to "kiss his old knees goodbye" and in the card she had given him two band-aids - one for each knee. Camden had a rough afternoon worrying about his Poppy. I wouldn't have realized that a four year old would comprehend enough of the situation to worry. Kids are something, aren't they? We were told that Kev will be in the hospital for four or five days. I'll keep you posted.

On July 20th, 2009 a momentous discovery was made. Local zoologist Arnold S. Pembroke of the Avian Research Facility made a shocking discovery on the shores of Valhalla. It was here nestled in the heart of Island Lake that a long thought extinct member of the avian community was spotted. This believed extinct breed is the Norwegian Land Mass Mallard, scientifically known as Giganticus Avianian Mudlakeus Billius. As you can see in the picture it is near the height of the trees nestled in the Valhalla shores. It clearly looms over the height of the power lines making this giant of a bird well over twenty feet tall and approximately 30 ft from bill to tail. Campers reported the wake created by the webbed feet in the water created whitecaps in the 8 to 10 ft range. Local shore patrol with the assistance of renowned hunting guide Steve Grotnes have located the bird's lair near Mud Lake. The nest is 12 ft deep and 45 ft by 45 ft. Nearby trees have been flattened, most likely by the giant wind forces caused when this monster takes flight. As the giant ducks have now taken residence on the shores of Valhalla, the Mater Bread Company has generously donated 3 tons of bread and lefse to supplement the ducks voracious appetite.

Time will only tell if this breed will continue to thrive here at the shores of Valhalla, but a documentary by the Animal Planet Network is in the planning stages to show the world this magnificent animal.

Please Pray for Kevin

Okay, that didn't work quite right....Anyway, Kev has found out that the date for his double knee replacement is July 27. I'm sure you all can understand that he's verrry nervous and apprehensive. The choice of whether to do one at a time or do both at once was his to make. He decided that one anesthesia and one hospital stay was the way he would rather do it. Of course, that means the first couple of weeks are going to be tough. Bob and Mary Ann had volunteered to be the caregivers when he comes home so that I can continue to work, but now I see they're on their way to Minnesota. Guess we should have checked their schedule!!!!
And then when he's all healed and ready to go back to work, he'll be starting a new job. We've been under just a bit of stress the last few weeks as we've pondered these decisions and tried oh-so-hard to leave it in God's hands. It's easy to pray for God's guidance, but hard to let go. At this point, we couldn't be happier with the answers.

Please Pray for Kevin

Well, Here is the latest news from our house. I had to deal with a lot of blood from one of my children today. Madalyn got hit with a t-ball bat at my family reunion, and had to get four stitches in the chin. They also did an x-ray of her right clavicle because she had a horrible looking bruise. It was heart wrenching to see my baby go through so much, but she was brave.
They gave her a ton of stickers that Adam and I ended up wearing home because she said we were her friends. She is definitely our accident prone child. We go back in 5 days to get the stitches removed. But my Bandaid Queen will get to wear a big bandaid for two days.

Hopefully she won't give me crap when we have to take it off. Because she loves her bandaids.
