GRANDPA GARRY SINKS '"PULLED TAFFY"

Sara and I watched Dad make taffy one day. He just 'dumped' but we tried to figure out the amounts by just observing him. Hope it works for you who want to try it. ''

Grandpa Sinks' Taffy

3 cups Brown Sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white Karo Syrup
2 Tbsp. butter
Boil first five ingredients until it turns brittle when a small amount is dropped into cold water.

Add 1 tsp vanilla -- stir.

Pour onto buttered pan or platter. When cool, pull until white. GOOD LUCK !!!

I remember waking up one a.m. to great-grampa Sink calling up the stairs: "Hey! get up! -We're goin' tradin' to Markle"! I didn't know quite what this meant, being of sound Norse heritage, but I got up and we drove off to Markle, straightto the grocery store. Grampa boughta bag ofbrown sugarand I was told, "don't tell yer Aunt Lois" and we puttered bak to the house and I watched as he made his favorite candy recipe and then we enjoyed it tgether. Bythe end of the day we had even shared some with Aunt Lois and that was even better 'cause we no longer hid our yummy secret.
I have brought his recipe with me to the hospital and the patients have enjoyed it so much when we made it together. Everyone should take the time to make and remember/learn to make this old-fashioned, yummy goodness.
Thank you grampa Sink and momma Norma Jean-we love you both!
