Maggie had 4 puppies on August 30th (beagles). There are 2 girls and 2 boys. In the pictures, the girls are on the left and the boys on the right (birth order just like the boys holding them). She had them 6 days after returning home from vacation at Grandma and Grandpa Dahlgren's where she and the other 2 dogs, Lucy and Twister (her daughters from a litter 4 years ago) stayed while the rest of the family vacationed in the Black Hills.
What a vacation! It was a camping trip and the first night in the South Dakota Badlands there was a storm and wrecked the tent! So we wound up spending 8 nights in the van - oh joy! Every night we had to rearrange things, move car seats, put the bed down in the back, recline a couple seats, get out sleeping bags and then put it all back so we could drive the next day. Of course the boys were so cooperative and appreciated the trip and didn't argue and fight at all! NOT!! We threatened that next vacation they will stay at Grandma's and Mom and Dad will go alone. We also saw Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Jewel Cave, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower and Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. It was at this last night in ND that we were a little glad to NOT be in the tent - we woke in the morning to find a herd of bison wandering through the campground!
The puppies are turning out to be a great distraction from the very strange quiet of the house since the boys went back to school on the 8th of September - ALL the boys. Matthew started Kindergarten (all day every day), Jacob second grade, Zachary fourth grade and Nicholas sixth grade.
I would welcome suggestions for names (calling them #1, #2, #3 and #4 is getting old). I am looking for a theme with 2 girls and 2 boys, any of which would be acceptable names to be stuck with forever since I am hoping to have my next show dog here. For example, the kids thought of Narnia - great names except we already have a Lucy. Any other great movies or books or whatever with 4 characters, 2 of each gender?

Great suggestions Sara!! Thanks so much. I have just been drawing a blank. Maybe it's just that my kids always have such goofy names for cats (adventurer, cap, bottle, curious...) that I'm in a rut. I'll run these by the family and see what they think!
The puppies are growing so fast and are starting to get personalities so that might help some too. They are up and walking and starting to play with each other for about 5 minutes, then they crash -- forgot how cute they are at 3 weeks!
ok.ok...so i am a little obsessive over puppy names. i have spent the last few weeks thinking of pup names. for stephen's, our new puppy coming in a few weeks, and now heidi's 4 babies. naming them is 1/2 the fun! We lost our Sunny 4 weeks ago. miss her terribly. After looking all over 2 states, finally found a dark yellow (reddish) lab pup 13 miles from here and she was born the night sunny died. sunny died in the morning and the pups were born that evening! we simply had to get her. the red ones often are the first ones to be bought and there are usually only 1 or 2 in a litter. so, we feel lucky to have found one so close to home. let us know what you picked!
We never did hear what Steve ended up naming his new dog???
His name is Gus. I think it's Angus, but steve calls him Gus.
