White Elephant Clarification

Hi all,
I just want to be clear on the white elephant gift for the exchange this year. Is it supposed to be a gag gift type of thing, or something you have that you don't really need/want anymore that may still be a nice gift for someone else? Or, is it just whichever of those two you want to do?? When I think of white elephant, I think of gag gift. Just thought I'd try to clarify so I know what to bring!

Hey Missy,
I'm as confused as you are. I was thinking the other way - I thought it was a nice something that you didn't want anymore but someone else might enjoy. Anyone want to clarify this for us?

I think it's a nice gift. Something you don't want anymore, but someone else may (garage sale type stuff)

That sounds ok to me, I have some things already in mind along the lines of a nice gift. The guys may take their side differently, but as long as we're on the same page, I'm good! :)

I would call that re-gifting and that is fine as long as everyone knows up front, but white elephant is supposed to be something like a gag gift or something hideous that you have. The goal of a white elephant party is usually entertainment rather than gain. We did it at church one time for our Sunday School party and it was really funny. Kirby had the best one.
